The classes/workshops on the calendar show what dates the classes/workshops will be held.  However, classes/workshops do fill.  To secure a spot, please press Sign Up and complete the form.  Within a day or two of your registration, we will e-mail you to confirm your enrollment.  Must be 14 years or older to register for any class (Glassblowing Demonstrations are for all ages).

All classes/workshops must be paid for in advance to reserve your spot.  Once you receive e-mail confirmation from us you will be charged.  No refunds.  In case of emergency, credit may be used toward another class/workshop.
 

 
Workshop Structure
All workshops that are priced at $85 follow this structure...
1-3 PM Instuction-Demonstration / 3-3:30 PM Break / 3:30-6 PM Lab 
(Other workshop times are as listed in the class descriptions)
 
**Previous glassblowing experience is required for most workshops
unless no previous experience required is indicated in the class description.
 
 

 

Sculpting Glass Workshop

Students will be learning basic sculpture techniques for additive and subtractive sculpture. Soft Glass sculpting techniques like bit work, Taglio work, and torch work will be discussed. Teamwork, which is essential to sculpture, will also be discussed.

We encourage you to bring in a few sketches of sculptures you want to see transformed from lines on paper to reality! Instructors will give each student one hour of individual guided help for their unique projects after demonstrations.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Glassblowing or Beginning Glassblowing

Color Application

Learn techniques in applying color to soft glass work. Overlay techniques like gradations, bubble overlays and incalmo (the process of joining two or more vessels to form one) will be instructed. Graals (the process of placing designs within a blown or solid glass form) will also be discussed.

Mold Blowing

Create unique designs in your glass vessels! Learn the processes for blowing different types of molds such as optic and plaster. Mezzo stampo, vertical chain, ribbed and stripped will be taught with optic molds. Key elements of bubble preparation and temperature will also be discussed.

Goblet Workshop

Students will learn several traditional methods of creating stemware. Wine and champagne glasses with blown and solid stems will be discussed as well as lip wraps. Students will also learn teamwork techniques essential in the construction of stemware.

Prerequisite: 6 months glassblowing experience OR instructor's approval

Kiln Casting (4 Week Class)

Join us as we explore the lost wax process for casting glass. Through this multi-step process, you will create a unique, detailed glass sculpture. No previous experience required. Class meets one weekend day per week, 4 consecutive weeks.

Sculptor and expert mold-maker Roger Junk will be co-teaching the class with glass artist Michael Boyd.

Sand Casting (1 Day Class)

Remember playing in the sandbox as a child? Imagine a glass sculpture created by you in just a few hours. In this class, you will work with Foci staff to design a one-of-a-kind sand mold. Then watch as hot molten glass is ladled in and brings your design to life. No prerequisite, all levels of experience welcome.
Meets one weekend day per month, from 1-5 PM.
